((An example of national stereotype))

Hey everyone!! To illustrate my last post about stereotypes, I'll like to give you an example of it. Friday, during our last class, we analyze a cartoon (p.14) witch illustrates the stereotype American people have of British people.
Resuming the description we did in class, I can describe this cartoon saying that the scene takes place in an office at the top of a building, probably in a big American city. The main characters are an American business man and his secretary; I can say that because the man is wearing a black suit and his a little bit fat ((Hey!! what am I saying? An American is not necessarily a fat man!! That is really a stereotype!! )), and the woman is behind him, taking notes of what he's saying so is probably his secretary. The business man will fly to England the following Friday, and he asks his assistant to remind him to turn back his watch 5oo years!!! He is probably saying that because he sees the British like a conservatrice and traditional society because of the Queen, the princes... But even if it's a traditional system, I don't think that we can affirm that England hasn't evolved in time: if we considered history facts, we see that England began the Industrially Revolution and not the Americans. We can say too that that English money is still more powerful that American money.
I don't think that we can judge England only by its system... Even if I never been there, I wouldn't describe this country like an uninvolved country because I completely disagree... and even someone asks me how I see England I won't base me in this stereotype made by the Americans !!!
