**SteReoTyPes**

During our first class, we studied stereotypes. I personally appreciate this subject because I believe stereotypes are really present nowadays in our society. But, how can we define stereotypes? An explanation of stereotypes could be a generalization about groups of persons. We use them when we can’t judge, explain or describe people or places because we don’t have all the information about these facts. There are different kinds of stereotypes like national, jobs, religious, sexes, places, appearance and characteristics. For example, we represent all French people like smelly persons even if we don’t know must part of them, we always imagine Americans tourist with flowered T-shirts, with cameras and thermo bags, caps, etc.
Sometimes, stereotypes can be a sort of discrimination... We consider most black people are poor people; some persons still even thinks that women are just made for doing housekeeping…
My opinion about stereotypes is that we use them too much… We don’t try to search or understand facts or people. I mean, we just can’t judge something basing on the stereotype we know… And somehow, we are influenced by them; things such as books, magazines, television’s programs have impacts on people and show all kind of stereotypes. I agree with some stereotypes but I do disagree with some of them too. It’s our job to prove some stereotypes are completely wrong !!
